The Emeco 111 Navy Chair

From waking you up in the afternoon to rotting your teeth, is there anything that Coke can’t do? Apparently not, because Coke has partnered with Emeco (a Hanover, Pa furniture company) to recreate its famous Navy Chair using recycled Coke Bottles.

From the Emeco Website:
Coke asked us to make the classic Navy Chair out of a new, unproven formulation of rPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate- recycled plastic bottles). They introduced us to the scientists at BASF the international chemical innovator and together we developed proprietary mix made of about 60% and a special combination of pigment combined with glass fiber for strength.

The Chair will be carried in the U.S exclusively by DWR (Design Within Reach). I’m assuming that this plastic chair will carry a high price tag, as it takes roughly three times longer to create than a standard plastic chair…That’s a fancy way of saying it takes three minutes to make instead of one (We’re not kidding.)

I dig the design of the chair. Its smooth surface and stylish colors, compliment the subdued office feel. This chair is perfect for someone like me…With its lightweight plastic design they would be great to pull out when we have extra guests, and they can easily go away when the party is over. What remains to be seen is if they are stackable. That would be icing on the cake.
