DWR adds Finn Juhl to Collection.
DWR has added famed designer Finn Juhl‘s furniture to it’s catalog, making it one of the only companies in the United States to carry his collection. “Until now, the work of this incredible designer was hard to hind in the U.S. except for a few auction pieces here and there that can go for $100,000,” says the DWR catalog. Juhl was known for the organic shapes, and new uses of wood, and the new aesthetic he brought to the modern movement.
One of my favorite pieces is his Model 45 Armchair (top) which features a flowing walnut frame, and a masculine black leather. Paired with the Eye table (above), it would bring an air of sophistication, yet comfort to any study or lounge room.
A more unusual furnishing is the Chieftains Chair, which is inspired by primitive weaponry. The teak and walnut frame has a bold square foot print, but curves in with the seat back in a shape that is reminiscent of a warriors shield. At $11,500 it proves the old saying is true: DWR is more like “Design (Not Quite) Within Reach.”
