10 Stunning Bathrooms (Part 1)

We spend an estimated three and a half years during the course of our lifetime shitting, showering, and shaving. When you let that number sink in, you realize how important a good bathroom design is. From bright colors that wake you up in the morning, to double headed sex showers, to the calming effects of a spa like space, your bathroom can have a huge impact on your life.

The warmth of the wood contrasts nicely with the darker tile, in this modern bathroom  with a touch of rustic feeling. The freestanding tub looks spacious without overpowering the room. But, my favorite feature has to be the open shower. There is something so liberating about not being surrounded by four walls when you bathe. Fetishes aside, the lack of a shower enclosure also keeps the room nice and open. The enormous glass windows help with that as well, and bring light in to brighten  the space.

This bright white bathroom is a mesh between New England Cottage and contemporary style. The light walls add a serene feeling to the room, while the bright pops of orange from the cabinets brings flair and life into the space.

Nature and industry collide in this truly remarkable bathroom. The curvature of the room itself, and the raised bathing area bring an organic aspect that meshes well with the more man made shapes like the rectangular mirror and sink. The space is left fairly open, with only a wooded wall that serves as a backdrop for the oval tub. The bathing and shower sit atop a raised platform that seems to designate a zone and bring a sense of organization to this massive room.

Two Words: Open Shower. You'll notice a lot of bathrooms on this list have this feature. It's because I think it really opens up a bathroom, and gets rid of silly and confining walls that aren't really necessary (and eat up precious square footage). There is a sense of community and family in this bathroom, not to mention a double shower. In a a master bathroom, a two person shower is incredibly practical. It gets rid of time spent waiting for your spouse to finish bathing, and ensures that no single person will eat up all the hot water. And mostly: It looks like a fun place to have hot wet sex. There, I said it...I want to bang in this room. Alright, moving on: The material palette for this bathroom is inspired.I love the (seemingly) slate walls in the shower area. It's nice to see designers moving away from the standard bright tile, or granite, and trying something new. The pebble floor the spans from the shower area to the vanity looks like it would feel great on your feet, and bridges the two zones together. The wood wall in the vanity area rounds out the natural style of the bathroom, and adds some warmth to contrast the cold slate.

At first glance, this bathroom is seemingly the most minimal on the list. But, a closer look reveals a colorful and mature space. The designers chose small round tiles for the floor and half wall that separates the shower from the rest of the room. It was a smart decision because their size, and subdued color don't overwhelm the space, letting the teal subway tile in the shower, and the skylight above become the focal point for the room. Another nice touch was the floating vanity which makes the room seem more accessible .
